Serious Betty is a media house dedicated to connecting you to the most exciting events and coolest creatives across Canada.
Serious Betty fills a gap in Canada’s independent media entertainment landscape, giving spotlight to Canadian creatives and music artists on the rise. Our goal is to connect Canada’s DIY music and entertainment scenes from coast to coast, and shine a global spotlight on Canadian underground creatives working in music and entertainment.
Through our event programming, newsletter, Instagram, radio show, blog, curated event calendar, and educational content, Serious Betty promotes and prioritizes the creatives who facilitate, feed, and grow Canada’s entertainment culture from the ground up.
Serious Betty wants to acknowledge and thank the original caretakers of the place we currently call Canada, for their continued protection of the land. Modern-day settlers may recognize the nation’s city names as home, but these names may not have the same significance for Indigenous peoples. (inspired by defund.ca)
The City of Toronto is built on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
