Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.

What International Women’s Day means to us.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” This theme hits very close to my heart because that is, and always has been, a driving force of my mission as an entrepreneur.

Fully immersed in DIY nightlife, I wanted to support independent music creatives who were not getting shine in mainstream media. Simply because I’m a woman, I set out to create greater visibility for the women who facilitate and grow our vibrant ecosystem of DJ culture and music.  When I sent out my very first newsletter in May 2018, I was a solo-preneur. Now, in 2022, I’m part of a growing team of dedicated professionals who are driven to make long lasting social and infrastructural change across the music and entertainment sectors.

Over the past 2 years, our team redid our website, elevated our branding, released merch, and interviewed/reviewed incredible artists. This year, we are seeking funding to create higher quality content, pay our staff, and develop our artist fund. These are BIG feats and even bigger goals. But I know it is all possible. And that confidence 100% comes from the abilities of our Serious Betty team.

Today I want to shine a spotlight on Johanna, Naomi, Destinie, Allisa, Shabz, Bianca, Ketsia, Siobhan, Lovebonez, Mia, and Micah who have all contributed to sustaining and growing our collective vision. I know with you all by my side, with all of your power and intelligence, we are creating a more sustainable tomorrow for the future generations of women, girls, and gender-non-conforming people to come. <3
